Database part 1 week 2
It was a difficult but challenging task. The task was that an existing access database was given and was needed to be developed in 3rd normal form which was a challenge in itself. I worked with Luke Wieselmann and I think create 36 odd tables to get it close to third normal form. There were a couple of tables where we could have split more but thought that there was sufficient enough of normalising for the task. There were so many little tables holding just 2 attributes but would have saved a vast amount of data storage in the end. The time table was scrapped and replace with a date and time attribute so when creating the database completely, queries could be created to display all statistics that is shown. A new table was created to allow for the many to many relationship between sale and products. In converting data from the old database to the new structure, a number of SQL statements would need to be created to update the database with functions such as removing all duplicates for example category to replace everything in product to an ID and in the category table, enter the id and category .
Team Work Blog Entry
Team selected consists Luke Wieselmann, Ben Fullerton and Michael Shelton. It is a fairly good team but we are having issues with Michael as he seems to argue points that are not needed and take 30 mins to resolve. The way he has thought would be just sitting back out of the way and not actually doing anything which is really annoying. All other team mates are great because we all communicate our ideas and solve queries we may have. I suppose a good team consists of a couple of criteria that makes the work successful. Things like good communication, co-operation, dedication of getting the work done instead of slacking off and just getting it done whether it would be in the lab or outside class. Some jobs can be separated into individual tasks but some can not so maybe an issue in future. Decisions will be made on a group decision, open for ideas. Communication in labs is fairly easy as at the table we have, if we have any issues, you can address the group. In terms of outside of class, emailing is needed and someone will be delegated to combining work together. It all seems simple and hopefully should be easy to use and understand.
